A new religious movement arising about 88 AG, in the plains north of the Hei river delta in the Earth Kingdom. It centered around an ascetic mystic whose dharma name was Myung, meaning "brilliance" in a local language. Myung was a religious teacher and charismatic healer who taught a message proclaiming the imminent birth of an avatar in the Earth Kingdom, the premature deaths of the Air Nomad and Water Tribe avatars having been supposedly confirmed to Myung in a vision. His followers practiced strict vegetarianism and sexual abstinence, and fasted after lunch until breakfast the following day. Property was held in common. There was strict equality between the sexes and Myung also taught non-nationalism and non-racism.

At its peak, the movement had about 10,000 lay sympathizers and about 150 mendicants. Myung lost many of his followers after he was discovered to not be abiding by his own strictures regarding sexuality, though the movement continues, much diminished, today.
