BM (Baccalaureus Magicarum, Bachelor of magical arts) is an undergraduate degree approximately equivalent in 21st century human terms to a four-year Baccalaureate degree. It is an academic degree focused on generalist magic theory, though in practice most institutions tend to slant this toward unicorn-accessible magic in deference to the reality that a relatively high proportion of students seeking the degree are unicorns. Nonetheless, it is possible for pegasi and earth ponies, and many non-pony species, to earn this degree as well.

This degree is as old as the concept of a degree itself, being granted in at least some equivalent form by the first known institutions to bestow generally recognized degrees.
