The Black Mountains are a mountain range in mainland Ponyland, which separate the province of Grundleland from Dream Valley in Eastern Ponyland. Among the mountains is Mount Gloom, a volcano legendarily associated with the lair of the Great Witch Hydia, the bane of the Grundles and mistress of the Smooze, in mythology. The mountains are reportedly regarded with superstitious fear by Ponylanders even today, variously said to be haunted by the ghost of Hydia, dragons, or fallen grundles cursed to eternal undeath. If any of these unlikely claims are true, reliable news of it has not reached the Isle of Yore as of the present time.
