- A city on a former island (now an upland plateau) south of the Dusty Mountains. A major metropolis during the Golden Age, it is now mainly agricultural. It has some of the most fertile soils in the Dusts, but is hampered by a depleted aquifer. Caketown is dependent on its weatherponies, who enjoy great social importance, to intercept clouds and gather them for the use of Caketown agriculture. There have been allegations that Caketown does business with cloud pirates operating throughout the Dusts, although these have not been substantiated.
Caketown is the capital of the Pony Republic, and one of the few significant settlements in the Dusts to be the capital of a nation with effectively controlled territory rather than a city-state amid loosely controlled dependent countryside. The government has been criticized for favoring ponies, and in particular pegasi, over the other inhabitants of Caketown in various ways. The prime minister of Caketown is Cloudy Roads and the president is Feathers de Clop. Caketown was a founding member of the Confederation of Cities, but was expelled after badly botched political maneuvering. Caketown’s trade economy is limited by its distance from other population centers. It is self-sufficient in most industry and produces an agricultural surplus. Caketown is usually considered to produce the finest ceramics in the Dusts. Caketown is serviced by the Aeropony service and supplies guards and trading posts for a lowland trade route connecting it to Docktown.
