Scholars believe that Equus is the center of the universe, and is orbited by the Sun and Moon, besides various more distant stars, both fixed and mobile. The Boreal Eye is also often postulated by ponies of science to be a moon as well, although there are a number of other theories. The patterns of fixed stars constitute the Constellations.
In the past, ponies are said to have controlled the movements of the sun and moon. In spite of the incredible nature of this claim, it appears to be historically established beyond reasonable doubt. It is unclear who is responsible for their present motions if such are other than a purely natural phenomenon. Scholars have noted some differences in the observed movements of the heavenly bodies and descriptions in ancient texts, although they are relatively minor.
