Day Star (also Daystar) was the third monarch of New Equestria, after [[Wizard-Prince]] [[Bluestar]] the Brilliant and his aunt, Queen [[Ephemeris]]. Day Star's reign was largely marked by consolidation of New Equestria, and isolation from the rest of the Isle of Yore, although there were some exceptions. Daystar expanded the New Equestrian aquaduct system in the Lake Parish, and controversially allowed refugees from the destruction of [[Old Turnip]] to settle in the kingdom over his government's objection, establishing the current reserve powers of the New Equestrian monarch in the course of the subsequent constitutional crisis. Historians have generally sided with Daystar and the minority in parliament, and indeed his decision proved popular in the long term, as the Opposition made much of the supposed willingness of the incumbent government to leave refugees to their fate in the lowlands.

In [[New Canterlot]], he built an elaborate memorial tomb for his predecessor, and later another for himself, which was finished well in advance of his death. 

During Daystar's reign, the Nickerby Parish was established, and the Western Parish was brought more firmly under the central government, ending the ambitions of the rebellious Duke of Earthdrop (and that title.)

Parliament confirmed his daughter, Meridian, as crown princess. After Daystar suffered debilitating complications of magical life extension, she ruled the kingdom as regent for eight months. She was acclaimed queen after his death and presided over his burial in the monumental tomb he had constructed for this purpose.
