Archived GM Notes: This page is unsealed GM-notes pertaining to PRPG2. It is not canonical to PRPG2. It may contain contradictions (even with itself), and preliminary ideas that were merely written down as I thought of them, for later consideration. The absence of something mentioned here from the canon does not necessarily mean that the party "missed" it, it could have been mooted for other reasons or simply discarded by me.
The Temple of the Sun is a religious structure of the Old Religion located in New Canterlot. It is notable for doors that rise under solar power (parabolic solar collectors boil water in counterweights that hold down the doors; the weights are then refilled from lake water to close them - nothing is very tight. Steam is crudely directed into the lake to hide it.)
The temple is built of marble and scavenged pre-catastrophic building materials, including steel. It is an elaboration of a pre-catastrophic municipal building.
EST's priest friend Shining Censer has an idea - arrange a triumph for the party. It is the prerogative of the R R Archimandrite of New Canterlot,
--
Changeling - to assassinate themselves, except for the Prime minster, who will survive (to reappoint the changelings, naturally)
Dead: Tall Tome.
Friendly Face: It is my sad duty to announce to you that there has been a terrorist attack during today's triumph. Many senior members of the government were among the victims. But we shall rise from the ashes of this tragedy a stronger nation. One with increased control over our borders and the Northern territories. It is clear that, as my party has long argued, that we need to establish a buffer between Equestrian civilization and the untamed wilderness we have not yet raised from the darkness of the Catastrophe. The Prince has approved a plan for an Emergency National Unity Government, to be headed by myself, which will accomplish these goals, and ensure a secure future for everypony. Long Live the Queen, and her regent, our Prince Daystar.
Speech -- Secret Sigil will try to convince them that there is no changeling infestation. Wysteria Gazerstable will use the opportunity to throw him under the bus (justly, admittedly) as a collaborator and put the horn ring on him.
Battle - one changeling (a queen) will hold off the party while the others prepare to swarm, i.e. pillage New Canterlot of love, then flee. ==
Revised door mechanism: works like Heron's, essentially.
Parabolic reflectors focus the light of the morning sun on a large bronze alicorn statue, which is hollow. Air in the statue expands, displacing water from a sealed vessel and into a bucket. The bucket is suspended by a chain on a sprocket. On the other end of the chain is a counterweight. The sprocket's shaft connects via angle-changing and torque-adjusting gear arrangement to a vertical shaft which rotates the temple doors. When the weight of the water in the bucket exceeds the weight of the counterweight, the sprocket is turned and the temple doors open. When the bucket reaches the lowest extent of its travel, it comes to rest on a platform with a drain and protruding posts. The bucket has a double bottom, each bottom containing offset holes. The posts match the some of the holes on the lower bottom of the bucket. When the bucket comes to rest on the platform, the upper and lower bottom are separated by the protruding posts, allowing water to flow through the holes in the upper bottom, the offset holes in the lower bottom, and down the drain on the platform. The bucket is prevented from immediately being released (and thus causing the doors to close) by a catch, which is released manually by the priests at nightfall (when they remove a certain icon from its daytime station.)
