---- ''Archived GM Notes:'' This page is unsealed GM-notes pertaining to PRPG2. It is ''not'' canonical to PRPG2. It may contain contradictions (even with itself), and preliminary ideas that were merely written down as I thought of them, for later consideration. The absence of something mentioned here from the canon does not necessarily mean that the party "missed" it, it could have been mooted for other reasons or simply discarded by me. UNSEALED after review. ---- EL detected the portal opening with the divination early warning network, was radio'd by Teardrop Island, and scryed from the Harmony, where she is currently. Though the giant scrying ball is unpowered, it can still be used for things not requiring tremendous energy. EL is obviously very good at casting through scrying links, and has done so. She'll summon a huge spectral monster with her sigil to fight the shadhavar. It will avoid hurting the PCs. At some point someone might get thrown off the tower, and be saved by it. The monster is enchanted gossamer and manipulated like a puppet through a scrying window, which, oddly, is traced straight down through the planet. REMEMBER TOWER LOOT TOWER OF CHIMES (Chronology): 1887: Founded by rev. mother Wind Chime, first prioress. 2058: Tower becomes enclosed under the leadership of the 7th prior, rev father Mark Tree 2105: Star Cluster and Spike join the Tower of Chimes, Star Cluster bringing with her the corrupted element of magic. This happened under the tenure of Tinker Belle, 10th prioress. 2108: Completion of the Reliquary 2119: Death of Star Cluster 2418: Spike left. 3281: Tower of Chimes conquered by Shadhavar lead by Starsong, killing the 46th prioress, Tubular Bell 3335: Present day; shadhavar occupy the tower secretly, under the leadership of the aging Starsong. TOWER OF CHIMES (Legends and rumors): The walls of the tower are tempered with dragon-fire (True; by Spike.) There was once a friendly dragon in the tower, centuries ago (Mostly true; Spike lived within the tower walls but not in the actual tower, which had no space for an adult dragon to live.) The monastics used to collect offerings of fruit, vegetables and grain from the villages round about, the land of which was owned by the tower or one of several nobleponies (Motif Index’s family was one such), but they stopped taking the offerings about “fifty years ago.” (True.) First level: Audience chamber, cloister screen. Stairs. The Shadhavar will stand here and throw stuff at the party through a one-way screen. "You must not disrupt our work. We are guarding a very dangerous magical power from an ancient evil. The threat to the universe from this entity is so grave that the lives of these few ponies we have been forced to consume for sustenance pales into insignificance." "The Thing the Name of Which was Blotted Out," Anqerehem-Matihanshur, "the Blasphemer." Thing protected: "A fragment of the Great Sign of En-Netsusep, stolen from the Late God when your race was young." Second level: Storeroom. Lots of boxes of trench whale meat (dried) and some fresh pony meat and a few snakes, squirrels, and wild game birds. There will be a trap here for the party; the shadhavar have placed ''invisible caltrops'' on the stairs to the third level. They will also leave the crate of pony meat open to intimidate the mob; they may experience a morale failure. Third level: has a bunch of musical instruments and junk. 4: kitchen 5: dining hall 6-9: sleeping quarters 10: infirmary, baths 11-13: library 14-15: lab (with Reliquary and sound pipe to above) 16-20: chime room 21: synchrodrome room 22: Chart room with balconies 23: Observatory works 24-25: Observatory Starsong and a few other high level Shadhavar are in the Observatory, trying to open a portal to the Dread Dimensions, Shadhavar are taking apart the musical equipment to take it back with them (to prevent the party messing with it before it's ready.) Loot: Mob sacked ground floor to infirmary, but the authorities regained control in the library and turned them back. The books are secured with a optical-musical lock. Originally, calibrated whistles were used to open them. "Well... the key was a sort of whistle... or rather several of them stuck together, but with only one mouthpiece. It sounded a chord, I remember." The magical mechanism operates based on tuned-size strings. The machine changes the tension of the strings to vary the accepted pitch. Three strings are stretched between a fixed rod and a bar. The the tension on the strings is changed by a rotating cam, and hence their resonant frequency changes. f = sqrt(T/m)/2L L is length, T is tension, m is mass per length. frequencies and displacements: 1 hoof = 0.177 meters 1/(30**2) of a hoof 'hoof' - 0.0001966667 meters STRING 0 (870 m9hoof) -1 - 663 N - 489 Hz 2 - 1339 N - 691 Hz -3 - 1990 N - 845 Hz 4 - 2660 N - 976 Hz STRING 1 (1 hoof) Basic tensioned length is 901 m9hoof, tension 641 N, frequency 464 Hz -1 - 641 N - 464 Hz -2 - 1280 N - 657 Hz -3 - 1900 N - 804 Hz 4 - 2570 N - 927 Hz STRING 2 (961 m9hoofs) -1 - 601 N - 422 Hz -2 - 1200 N - 596 Hz -3 - 1800 N - 730 Hz 4 - 2400 N - 842 Hz STRING 3 (1020 m9hoofs) -1 - 566 N - 385 Hz -2 - 1130 N - 544 Hz -3 - 1670 N - 666 Hz 4 - 2260 N - 769 Hz Scale: ||A 385 Hz - 3:1||B 422 Hz - 2:1||C 464 Hz - 1:1||D 489 Hz - 0:1|| ||E 544 Hz - 3:2||F 596 Hz - 2:2||G 657 Hz - 1:2||H 666 Hz - 3:3|| ||I 691 Hz - 0:2||J 730 Hz - 2:3||K 769 Hz - 3:4||L 804 Hz - 1:3|| ||M 842 Hz - 2:4||N 845 Hz - 0:3||O 927 Hz - 1:4||P 976 Hz - 0:4|| NOT USED: M, H, C - too close. Escapement that rotates the rotor at a constant rate when the lever is pulled. It takes 3 seconds to run, 3/4ths second per rotor position. A little wheel indicates the position of the rotor. Clock of Calamities - Ebbs and flows as if alive, occasionally putting out ephemeral feelers. - Black, but pulses with flashes of cyan and golden light. The Mace of the Heartland - covered in strange twisting runes. - large mace without a handle - commanded by spellsong - dispels magic when striking. penetrates some magical fields. Reliquary - A metal sphere, with self-renewing enchantments powered by the EoM - Pulses of harmonic magic radiate from it - Has a viewport through which the EoM, in the form of a battered gold tiara with a purple crystal star in it, is located. - Surrounded by graduated gimbals (3) allowing free rotation. They each have a locking knob and another knob allowing fine control of the rotation. - Directly opposite the gimbal is a thaumascope. - It has a button below the viewport. (push the button to lock in a star) Monster: Aetherial monster, regenerating, will want to mainly kill the shadhavar, can't take reliquary, wants to dispell the portal. Will mostly just tank damage from ponies, but may swat them away.
