=== Angel Gaze === ||Occupation||Activist|| ||Tribe||Pegasus|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Pale yellow|| ||Mane color||Red|| Angel Gaze is a noble from Canterlot. Born into money, she has found per purpose in life with the Colonial Benevolent Society, an organization dedicated to exposing and rectifying abusive colonial practices. (While strongly against exploitative practices (e.g. forced labor), it should be noted that many members of the CBS still take a rather paternalistic view of indigenous cultures.) Some of the older members of the organization look down on Angel Gaze's youth, but she is far more committed to the cause than many of the rich merchants and noble seeking to soothe their consciences by participation in the CBS. Angel has been to the jungle several times before and is a hardy traveler. She does not shirk at danger, but perhaps neither does she fully appreciate her own mortality. She is a natural diplomat but may come across as naive at times. She is not very good at physical fighting, but has a decent grasp of pegasus magic. She speaks only Equestrian, and that with an upper-crust accent. ''It's dangerous to go alone, Angel! Take some others with you...'' === Muddy Boots === ||Occupation||Explorer|| ||Tribe||Earth pony|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Brown|| ||Mane color||Pink|| Muddy Boots' family came from Equestria as colonists. Besides Equestrian, she has a fair command of the Zebra-Pony trade pidgin. She was born on a farmstead in the colonies, and has made herself comfortable in the jungle as well. She is proficient in fieldcraft and survival skills, and in navigation. She can be a bit quarrelsome and is always ready for a dust-up, but is not a professional soldier. === Grappler === ||Occupation||Soldier|| ||Tribe||Pegasus|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Gray|| ||Mane color||Brown|| Grappler is a mercenary. A rough mare from a rough part of Trottingham, she was a juvenile delinquent. A magistrate sent her to the colonies instead of prison. She excels in the use of melee weapons and unarmed combat. She is proficient with nonlethal methods, having worked as a plantation overseer for a few years before moving into what she considered a better line of work. Grappler is an exceptionally strong flyer, but is hopeless at pegasus magic, and is mostly illiterate. She speaks a little Zebra. === Vizuri === ''Taken'' ||Occupation||Translator|| ||Tribe||Pegasus Zony|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Blue and White|| ||Mane color||Blue|| A half-zebra half-pegasus pony, Vizuri is a quick thinker. She's not the strongest flyer, or particularly magical, but she has managed to accumulate a variety of useful skills. A polyglot, she speaks Equestrian, Ponylander, Zebra and a few of the local indigenous languages proficiently, and is literate in the first three as well. In Port Hoofcourt, she was until recently employed as a translator. Before she moved to Port Hoofcourt, she had been an outcast and a prostitute in another town. She managed to learn to read and write, and scrimped together enough money to relocate, hoping to leave that life behind her. Unfortunately, she recently lost her job when a rival exposed her past to the office employing her. === Pop Gunner === ||Occupation||Officer|| ||Tribe||Unicorn|| ||Gender||Stallion|| ||Coat color||Green|| ||Mane color||Gray|| A veteran of the Boar Wars in the South, Lieutenant Gunner served under the famous major general Pommelroy. After the war, he simply couldn't bear to return to the stifling formality of Equestrian society and his high society extended family - or abandon his native wife. He decided to stay in the colonies and take up the plow. Unfortunately, conflict followed him, and a renegade tribe of Boars set fire to his farm out of revenge. His family perished in the attack despite his efforts to save them. Pop couldn't bear to try and rebuild; there was nothing left for him there. He sold his land and became a soldier of fortune. Pop is in reasonably good shape despite his age and committed relationship to his tobacco pipe. His unicorn magic is keen, and he remains proficient in magical artillery spells and other ranged magical attacks. He speaks Equestrian and Zebra fluently. === Cuddleford === ||Occupation||Riverboat skipper|| ||Tribe||Unicorn|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Yellow|| ||Mane color||Orange|| Cuddleford is an independent riverboat skipper and a very skilled pilot. She knows the brownwater of the region like the back of her distal foreleg, and has been upriver many times to service the trading posts and stations inland - though never as far as the Headwaters. She's well-acquainted with riparian lore and dangers. She speaks Equestrian and a few words of the indigenous languages commonly spoken upriver, mostly friendly greetings, threats, and profanity. Her unicorn magic isn't the strongest, but she is decent with telekinesis, finding it indispensable in operating her vessel without a large crew. Her father was a country doctor, and though she didn't especially take to it, she remembers a few things he taught her. === Buzz Ard === ''Taken'' ||Occupation||Farmer|| ||Tribe||Earth Pony|| ||Gender||Stallion|| ||Coat color||Blue|| ||Mane color||Dark blue|| The son of fairly well-to-do colonial farmers, Buzz is the black sheep of his large family, always getting into trouble with his roguish ways. He's in Port Hoofcourt to help his aunt with his family's business interests, though his aunt has realized that the less he helps out, the better. Consequently, he has plenty of free time. He would like to make it big with some kind of scheme or another, so he'd be free of his parents' financial hold over him. He's very good at gambling, winning over mares with uncommitted affections, and persuading people to believe him. His questionable associations have allowed him to obtain a few rather disreputable skills as well; he's rather skilled with a lockpick and knows how to sneak away without being blamed for anything. Buzz is athletic and pretty good in a fight. He speaks Equestrian only. === Pundamilla === ||Occupation||Sailor|| ||Tribe||Zebra|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Black and white|| ||Mane color||Black and white|| Pundamilla is a zebra scout and sailor, like several generations of her ancestors. She's been working on the river for years now, but she doesn't let her guard down - she knows that the heart of this continent always has surprises for creatures of the open grasslands like zebras and ponies. She relies on her wits, stealth, and trusty dart gun. She speaks Equestrian as well as her native Zebra. She is perceptive and cool under pressure. Though something of a loner by nature, and not really dependant on the company of others for her happiness, she is reasonably sociable and keen to trade information about the river and jungle conditions when she can. === Kalamu === ''Taken'' ||Occupation||Alchemist|| ||Tribe||Zebra|| ||Gender||Stallion|| ||Coat color||Black and white|| ||Mane color||Black and white|| A learned alchemist, Kalamu is a proficient healer and medicine-zebra. There are dark rumors about him, though -- that he was banished from his tribe for practicing forbidden arts, or that he will sell the most wicked potions for the right price. He certainly doesn't seem to discourage the rumors, keeping tight-lipped about his background. A relatively small Zebra, he is wiry but strong, always hauling around plenty of alchemical reagents and equipment for his practice. He is a quick and competent alchemist. He speaks Zebra, as well as a few indigenous languages with excellent fluency. He speaks some Equestrian, but not very well. === Jungle Dreams === ||Occupation||Explorer|| ||Tribe||Earth Pony|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Green|| ||Mane color||Dark red|| Jungle Dreams is a writer of travelogues. They are very widely read in the Equine world, and though they may be a bit embellished, Dreams is a hardy soul who will almost certainly never give up her adventures for the lecture circuit. She is proficient in jungle lore and fieldcraft, and is good in a fight, never without her trusty machete. She can say, "Greetings, friends," and "surrender or die!" in sixteen non-Equine languages, and despite her worldliness, retains a naive belief in Equine moral superiority. === Thistleglow === ||Occupation||Wanderer|| ||Tribe||Unicorn|| ||Gender||Mare|| ||Coat color||Pale green|| ||Mane color||Light brown|| Thistleglow left her backward, rural hamlet in the Grand Oriental Duchy of Ponyland to get an education and see the world, fleeing this misfortunes of her youth and a failed marriage - not to mention sating her wanderlust. Certainly, her travels have taken her far from her distant homeland. The daughter of a village wise-mare, Thistleglow is a healer and hedge mage, trades with which she supports herself in her travels. She speaks Equestrian and Ponylander, and a few words of Zebra. She is a decent mage, and is keen on learning more about the lore and herbcraft of the indigenous peoples of the continent. She is rather well-read, and has a strong amateur interest in archeology.
