A mon can enter a state called "empowered" under the rules of the uMon battle sport, generally with an item or a special move (though it is also an intrinsic of some uncommon mons generally banned from regular sanctioned play.) Empowerment can unlock additional, special effects of moves. Empowerment-inducing items or moves generally have other buffing effects as well.
