Kaishiki (Optimum Neuromorphs Light Observation Flyer Type R)
Kaishiki (formerly known as "Robin" by her owners) was one of three mons of her model purchased new by the Seattle Police Department in 2132 and performed well there, though there were some questions raised about whether the SPD could have achieved similar results with other, cheaper options. A mon developed with sufficient intelligence and independence to conduct a wide variety of missions without constant human management, although she considered herself to be doing mostly good work, she increasingly chafed over many of the people she worked with treating her as a piece of equipment, or at best some sort of pet, rather than a full member of the police force. When the WCA overran the city, she and one of her "siblings" were among the mons left behind by retreating human forces. While displeased matters had come to war, once the opportunity was presented to her, she decided she'd much rather help the struggle for mon-human equality than sit on the sidelines; since joining the PMWCA, she has successfully carried out numerous observation and scouting missions, as well as messenger and data relay tasks. While both annoyed and somewhat worried by the anti-human views of some of her colleagues, she's still confident she made the best choice available.
Kaishiki resembles a megabat with a high grade phased array taking up and making up much of her "face". She has a small central monocular auxiliary camera, allowing her to see color and flush patterns, but her primary "sight" sense uses her phased array, allowing passive and high-resolution active radar at range. Her phased array can also be used for data transfer and related tasks, and either with it or with her more standard mon communication system, Kaishiki is capable of operating numerous vehicles and other machines designed for wireless mon interface (though she does not possess skills or software for hacking denied systems). She is fully flight capable with very good maneuverability and endurance, including the abilities to glide and hover, but is lightweight, relatively fragile, and non-viviparous. Her digestive system is also small for her size and energy requirements, so she requires either high-energy liquified food or external electrical recharge to operate at full capacity (She can still live on lower-quality and/or solid food, but available powered flight time may be significantly reduced.); she is, however, fully self-repairing, phased array included. She has small folding hands at the peaks of her wings and can also use her feet for manipulation. She is capable of walking and climbing with her feet and wing peaks but is not as fast, stable, or energy-efficient at ground movement as a mon less specialized for flight could be. Some humans may also find her design particularly "cute".
Kaishiki was sent to Los Angeles with Ann in the Winter of 2136 to try and quell civil unrest there; she had already been working with Ann around Salt Lake City, and it was thought that her skills, experience, and abilities could be useful on a mission such as this. Additionally, when partnered with Ann, use of her own phased array can partially counteract Ann's current disability.
