Mon Battlesport is a blood sport in which teams of mon slave gladiators battle until one team or the other is unable to continue fighting, or its coach is declares that he or she is unwilling to continue the fight, ending the battle as a win for his or her opponent.

The deaths of mons during these battles is common. Indeed, inflicting fatalities is actually directly rewarded on the nonsanc circuit. It may also be considered strategically useful to target particularly skilled or powerful mons for killing, even at the cost of a tactical disadvantage. However, in informal or casual mon battles (e.g. between friends), fatalities may be actively avoided by the fighters and their owners.

Battle Formats

The common battle formats are Singles, Half Teams Singles, Half Teams Regular, and Full Teams. In singles, each team is represented in the arena by a single mon, and there is no replacement. Whichever mon first becomes unable to fight (either in the estimation of the match judge, or by the mon's trainer declaring it unable to fight) is the loser. In half teams singles, teach team is represented by four mons, of which only one per team is in the arena at once. Their trainer may switch them out freely. In half teams regular, each team is represented by four mons, with two in the arena per team at any given time. In Full Teams, four mons per team are in the arena at once, with eight mons total per team. Less common formats include Epic Full Teams (8v8, no replacements) and No-Switching Full Teams, in which mons may not be switched, but may be replaced if they are unable to fight. (Note that once a mon has been declared "unable to fight" by its trainer, it may no longer participate in a given battle.)
