None of the characters in PM speak English, French, Arabic, Dutch, Hindi, or other Earth languages. However, for the sake of convenience and practical playability (not to mention [[Translation Convention|longstanding successful practice]]), we notionally translate the primary language spoken by the player characters into English, and the primary dead language used for prestige or liturgical purposes into New Latin. Some other topics could benefit from specific discussion. The Deity: We will translate much of the vocabulary of PM-universe monotheistic religion with the English vocabulary of Abrahamic Monotheism (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc) rather than using a bunch of conlang loanwords. Of course, a notional person from the PM world transported to our world ''would'' probably identify our God of Abrahamic Monotheism with their God of the Prophet Ardamar, so this is arguably appropriate. However, the underlying religious beliefs and theologies are not the same and the use of familiar terminology should not become a source of confusion. Although the Ardamarian religions consider their God to be genderless, they refer to him with masculine pronouns in languages that have them, a practice which we shall follow in notional translation as well. The Heghomic language: Proper nouns may be partially-translated when one or more of the morphemes is in active use and would be recognized by the player characters, e.g. "port", "town" or "fort". Heghomic is assigned an orthography and phonology similar to English for aesthetic reasons including consonance with such translated morphemes, and for the convenience of players attempting to pronounce (and remember) such words.
