PRPG3 Epilogue
This is a general world and NPC epilogue. Epilogues of most player characters should be covered in their individual wiki pages. See those pages for specific PC epilogues.
After the birth of Coral Sun, Dawn found herself visiting her friend Gale more often, and it wasn't hard for anyone watching Dawn play with Coral to guess why. About one year after Coral's birth, Dawn unexpectedly (or maybe not) announced that she was pregnant herself. Less unexpectedly, at least to those who knew her history, she declined to name the father. Dawn gave birth to a foal bearing wings and a horn after the usual 11-month pregnancy. For the next two decades or so, Dawn settled mostly into home life, focused on raising her foal and enjoying being a mother. After her filly had grown, she gradually returned again to adventuring when called upon.
When Coral Sun was a young filly, Galesong discovered that Coral was able to interact with cloud material. Further testing found that she was able to cloud-walk, and had the full cloud manipulation faculties expected of a pegasus her age. As she got older, her cloud control abilities kept developing on pace, and she began to enjoy creating various arts and crafts, especially sculptures, out of clouds. She also eventually took to sleeping in a cloud-bed. As she grew older and more of her magical capabilities continued developing, Dawn tutored her in how to combine her pegasus and earth pony magics and she was able to use this knowledge to cause early morning dew or the surface moisture on the ground from recent rain to mist into a fluffy fog of cloud at ground level. This led to consternation during games of hide-and-seek when the ability to conjure and remove fog at will gave her obvious unfair advantages, but Coral was otherwise encouraged to continue developing her magical talents.
As Coral Sun grew up into a young mare, she developed more toward the compact and gracile figure of a pegasus than the stockier build of an earth pony. Medical exams revealed that she also had the vestiges of flight muscles and what would have been the expected bone structure for a pegasus. A doctor reported, "She's a pegasus as far as I could tell you, except for being an earth pony." This caused some concern, until further testing found that her full range and capacity for earth pony magic was nonetheless unaffected.
Mel-Anhu guided Night Chime through the Dread Dimensions, sharing her considerable knowledge of its long history with him as they both rediscovered its present. Although they became friends, it also soon became clear that any real interest in mating failed to develop between them. Once this was apparent, she wasted little time in becoming pregnant by Kurentades, a skilled Shadhavar mage-singer from a nomadic party she and Night Chime traveled with. She raised her daughter Lirendes partly in the Dread Dimensions and partly on Equus, exposing her to both the Shadhavar and pony worlds in the hopes that she would be versatile and able to find a place and a home in whichever she chose, and that she would have friends in both, an example that Mel-Anhu set by working to remain friends with and periodically visit Emerald Hues and Dawn.
Twilight Hour was imprisoned for the remainder of her life, which, in the absence of effective life extension, was not very long. Emerald Hues visited her in prison often, trying to create honest dialogue that would bring the roots of their schism into the open in the hopes of healing and reestablishing their friendship. This proved difficult, although near the end of Twilight Hour's life they were finally reconciled, at least sufficiently so that Emerald made arrangements for Twilight to get a compassionate release into hospice care during her terminal age-related illness and receive the customery funerary honors of a Crooked Tower mage. Most of Twilight Hour's surviving Sickle Island staff were given lengthy prison sentences for their complicity in her plan, although not life sentences. They were eventually released after being deemed rehabilitated and evaluated as low risks of recidivism.
In the aftermath of Twilight Hour's failed coup and bid for the Sunstone, Clean Whistle voluntarily remained at the Crooked Tower during the lengthy investigation. Prosecutors eventually determined that she was in fact kept mostly in the dark about Twilight Hour's plan relative to the other conspirators and elected not to charge her with anything. Emerald offered Clean Whistle a job as a janitor at the Crooked Tower, which she accepted. She worked there until she retired to a quiet neighborhood near Cardioid Point, where she spent her final years.
A few years after the party's unplanned visit to Haven Island, Meadow Mist, having convinced the trade boat operator to ferry her to the mainland, unexpectedly turned up at the Crooked Tower. She announced that she was searching for Dawn Sparkle and the other alicorn "queens" of this age. When Emerald and Dawn spoke with her, she told them she was searching for guidance on what the future of her people should be, now that the world was restored from desert to green and alicorns had returned: with the curse of Netsu gone from the world, it longer seemed ideal to remain isolated and cut off from the benefits of modernity, but how to rejoin the rest of Harmonia and ponykind without risking painful conflict was beyond her. After much discussion and a series of evaluatory visits to Haven Island by experts, outside interests were barred from moving into the island except under carefully controlled and monitored conditions to prevent exploitation of the relatively more naive islanders. Bringing Haven Island up to speed was approached in three prongs. The first was to provide access to modern agricultural cultivars and techniques. The second was to build medical clinics to allow the islanders to have a modern standard of care, and begin campaigns of vaccination and screening to eliminate what surprisingly little endemic disease existed on the island. The third was to establish schools and educate the islanders so that subsequent generations would be prepared to join the outside world. These included both standard public education and an advanced school for the magically gifted. Amethyst Hues quietly moved to Haven Island for a time to teach at this magic school, while also building a lunar observatory on one of the island's hills.
In time, ranching of motile vegetables was among the new agricultural developments introduced to Haven Island. These included megaflora restored from genes extracted from the tissue samples returned by the expedition. Megaflora and other genetically restored crops were engineered and safety tested on small-scale research farms on the mainland of Yore first, but given to Haven Islanders once it was determined that they were safe and suitable for pony agriculture to ensure that Haven Island would maintain agricultural parity with the rest of Yore.
Megaflora and other motile vegetables also eventually inevitably escaped or were released from their captive farm settings; with the advantage of motility, these plants often thrived in the wild and became a part of the ecology of Yore (and in time, much of Equus). Some ponies found that they enjoyed exercising a primal urge to hunt and eat these running vegetables. Indeed, over-hunting of some species became a concern as the practice caught on, so to facilitate management of these resources and prevent re-extinction of wild stock, licensed seasons and quotas were created.
Of all the motile vegetables reintroduced, particularly important was the common saltwater hayminnow. Most of the cans returned by the expedition proved to have usable genetic material, allowing a diverse gene pool of new hayminnows to be cloned quickly. With no natural predators left in the now largely-fishless oceans of Equus, they proliferated into unimaginably vast shoals. This in turn attracted fishing operations and kick-started the canning industry on the Hayminnow Islands back into existence. It also allowed herbivorous fish, and eventually larger predators of those herbivores, to be re-introduced to repopulate the seas and begin rebuilding its food web. The same process was undertaken with freshwater hayminnows and fish in freshwater lakes and rivers, restoring those biomes as well.
With hayminnows reestablished as an available food source, some of the still-extant seaponies from the Dread Dimensions were invited to emigrate to Harmonia's waters to provide a force for exploiting resources now submerged under the oceans and otherwise impossible to utilize. A few accepted and established communities on Equus. They became notable archaeologists of submerged ruins and in time built new sea pony towns and cities as they proliferated.
The Celestial and Lunar reserves were left to their own devices for centuries, and in time succeeded in regrowing many enormous everwood trees, whose seeds were subsequently spread far and wide to suitable habitats on Equus. They became, if never very common, at least a presence and an available resource once again. Similarly, a number of other pre-catastrophic species thought to be lost forever were miraculously restored from material obtained in the Dread Dimensions, either by ponies sent to search for them or by entrepreneuring shadhavar who realized that ponies might be interested in buying such things.
Emerald Hues was periodically offered positions that were more powerful and more political, but turned them down to remain the archmage of the Crooked Tower for many centuries, content to continue teaching while she watched ponykind heal and restore itself back toward the golden age it had once lost, in tune with the healing and restoration of the planet that she and her friends had helped to save.
She never forgot her friends.
