A flying squirrel, the daughter of a physics (primarily quantum) professor at Dandulena Royal University, Dr. Lavinia Atwood (and Sergeant Cyrus Atwood, deceased), and herself a part-time librarian at that institution, Garnet also now works as a part-time contractor for the RIS after having gotten caught up in a previous case they handled. In addition to her ready access to the university library, she personally possesses a variety of esoteric knowledge, and of more practical use, she's a member of a private "book club" with sometimes surprising connections in both high and low places.

While on jobs for the RIS, Garnet has been known to carry a concealed, subsonic, though not actually silenced .22 handgun, and she has some scars under her fur (after taking injuries to her shoulders, arms, chest, and scalp, but I'm not sure how much of that scarred) from a prior RIS job.
