Lunette Lokisdottir, a european red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris).
What you (your player characters) know about her: almost nothing, but she's said to have a background as a "fixer." The extent of what exactly she can fix is a little ambiguous. Mostly it's embarrassing or difficult personal problems, supposedly. Got in a pickle and need to leave town fast and real quiet-like? She might be able to arrange that, for a price. Need someone else to "leave town" quietly? Well, that's a bit out of her wheelhouse, but she might know a pro who specializes in that sort of thing - she can introduce you, maybe. Also for a price, of course.
Why start working for a private investigator? Because sometimes for private detective outfits, people who know how to fix things are useful, and being retained for being useful comes with a regular paycheck that freelancing can't always guarantee. A client's undying appreciation alone isn't going to pay the bills, now, is it?

Jelle:

Character Page

<Jelle> She goes by the civilian name Camilla Pinebarren, a name that just screams "9 to 5 coffee lady at the office". With the stage name "Coco", which just screams nazi collaborator.
<Jelle> A squirrel who grew up in a bad household, she was thrown out on the streets for juvenile delinquency.
<Jelle> She caught the eye of a local wiseguy, who promised to fulfill her dream of becoming a singer if she'd return the favour.
<Jelle> She ended up at a place with some famous clientele who'd only have been at that place if they had shady business.
<Jelle> Coco got paid rather handsomely for her implied silence and discretion, but eventually wanted to move away from a place run by the mob.

<Jelle> She was required to provide them information on people in higher cirlces in exchange for letting her off the leash, but was scared straight when her ex beat up one of her new associates out of jealousy.

<Jelle> To arrange for her exit from the mob, she conspired to make it look like he'd turned state witness by leaking information to investigators while simultaneously getting him off the hook for assault charges, to make the impression he'd ratted more plausible.

<Jelle> She joined the RIS to help them put more of the mobsters out to pasture, just in case her personal situation needs greater distance from her criminal past.

Maddie:

<MD> So I'm thinking of Rizzo, Riz for short, Fellini

<MD> So I'm thinking Rizzo is an ex-cat-burglar who got pushed into joining hicu over time as an alternative to arrest and towards cleaning up his act

<Reese> @MD: Though also, by "hicu", did you mean "RIS"?

<MD> and yes, I mean't RIS

<Reese> @MD: And species? I think you mentioned considering some sort of weasel?

MD> yep, specifically a Stoat, which makes his name a horrible joke

Reese:

Garnet Atwood
A flying squirrel, the daughter of a physics professor at Dandulena Royal University in Simha City and herself a librarian at that institution, Garnet also now works as a part-time contractor for the RIS after having gotten caught up in a previous case they handled. In addition to her ready access to the university library, she personally possesses a variety of esoteric knowledge, and of more practical use, she's a member of a private "book club" with sometimes surprising connections in both high and low places.

Nate:

<Zewp> -Onychomys.
<Zewp> -grew up in the equivalent of the american southwest. They tried to turn him anglo with a boarding school, but it only sort of took.
<Zewp> -took part in the traditional totem hunt. Via a series of ridiculous events, he wound up falling in a river and having to kill a water moccasin without drowning, so he's one of the few Onys to have a water totem.
<Zewp> -This led him into rumrunning, piracy, and just general aqueous malfeasance.
<Zewp> -sought to make his way in the world. there was a war on, but he wasn't keen on becoming part of a (non)human wave attack, so he just sort of travelled around, avoiding the draft by disappearing where needed.
<Zewp> -wound up running rum in the vicinity of Simha City.
<Zewp> -rum runners, except with hotchkiss guns in the bed, forming small fast boat fleets
<Zewp> -he used to work with the local flatfoots to take down the sewer rat syndicate. Who likes rats, see?
<Zewp> -after prohibition ended, there was no money in that, so he just sort of puttered around, until pulling a few strings with the detectives he worked with on the sewer rat case. One of them said he had 'moxie.' this, he knew.
<Zewp> -went from being 'one of the local faces who helps us' to 'hey i need a job heh heh' and settled in with the agency.
<Zewp> -skills include going spearfishing with his native weapon, using a machine gun, piloting a boat, and astronavigation.
<Bryce___> That should be good. I'm fine with prohibition having recently ended as a historical element.

<Zewp> ok we'll call my character Elly Zuzekan
<Zewp> unless we come up wih something better
