Safehill is a village built on a hill on the Isle of Stonepipes. The hill is protected from lava flows and other volcanic phenomena, hence its name. During times of heightened volcanic activity, farmers in the surrounding lowlands are able to retreat to the village for safety, and it swells with temporary sleeping accommodations. Originating as such an accommodation, the nearby Stonepipe Spa now caters to visiting tourists who wish to enjoy the local hot springs.
