It is now independent, under its feudal lord [[Following Seas]]. Agriculture in the area is sustained by organized cloud herding. The downtown area is a usual setting-off point for glider caravans to the [[Three Towns]]; a hamlet named [[Edge (Eastern Dusts)|Edge]] (not to be confused with the [[Edge|larger, independent settlement]] in the Western Dusts), which is part of the jurisdiction of Sea Stable but is located a few kilometers East of the town proper, is situated on the path to the lowlands. Merchants making the overland journey to the Three Towns pass through there, and there are businesses catering to them. Formerly, the area where Sea Stable is located was home to a shipbreaking industry and a Ponylander naval base where obsolete vessels were stored. After the catastrophe, it continued to be a source of recycled metals and other items, but its reserves of such material are mostly depleted and have been only minimally exploited for at least the last three centuries.
