The Surveyor Islands are a chain of upland regions (formerly volcanic islands) in the Ashen Sea near the [[Isle of Yore]], west of [[New Equestria]]. They comprise, in order of size, [[Tephra Island]], Emberglow Island, Rhumb Line Island, and Cartographer Island. The [[Elder Mountain]] on the [[Isle of Yore]] and the [[New Volcano]] result from the same volcanic activity that gave rise to the islands. Were the oceans still at their pre-catastrophic levels, the New Volcano would not be an island, but rather a seamount, though future eruptions might increase its height sufficiently to emerge from the notional sea level.

Tephra Island is the only island known to have significant inhabitation. It is said to be populated mainly by members of a fire-worshipping religion who relocated there from the Equestrian wastelands in the Dark Age. They have limited trade with the Northwestern Dusts and New Equestria, but are largely self-sufficient.
