A mostly pony-populated city-state near an abyssal trench in the lowlands of the Western Dusts. It has a fairly austere but reliable standard of living, which is improving with its technological development.

The economy is based on the hunting and processing of Trench Whales (45%), industry (35%), trade (15%) and services (5%).

The Premier of Trenchtown is Train Oil, an earth pony. The minister of science and industry is a pegasus, Sky Glow. The minister of natural resources is Captain Pinehoof, a pegasus.

Trenchtown has contested primary elections but has been a one-party state under the Progressive Ponyist Party since a revolution in 3280 AE and is generally oligarchical. A strict policy forbids changelings and other shapeshifters from entering Trenchtown. The government foments paranoia regarding the subject, apparently as a means of unifying propaganda. Trenchtown is a member of the Confederation of Cities.

Trenchtown has little agricultural land, but what is present is very sophisticated and intensive. The Progressive Ponyist Party claims to have abolished all serfdom, which is true (although there were never significant numbers of serfs in Trenchtown).

By the time of PRPG3, Trenchtown was flooded with the return of the oceans and is now abandoned far below sea level. Most of its population migrated to New Trenchtown.
