Zebrian Empire
The Zebrian Empire was the last holdover of sovereign nations in Ponecia. Its war against the last independent pegasus nation had sealed the fate of both countries and was a bitter and deadly conflict that brought the country to ruin. Emperor Ubaba himself, just a normal villager at the time, was orphaned by a raid on his village and adopted by jungle fighters trying to drive the pegasi from their land. His skill and determination quickly led him to take command of their jungle commando, then the empire's resistance movement, and finally the country. But he only succeeded in doing so by negotiating the empire's incorporation into the super state of Ponecia after the defeat of the pegasus invaders, putting an end to the Zebrian Empire as a country. The zebras still maintain the name Empire for cultural reasons, despite the loss of its territory. Ubaba and his followers have made a home for themselves in Equinopolis to have a say in the state's affairs on matters concerning zebras, but he has no real love for the city. Some say he is planning to break his people's lands away from Ponecia to restore their independence.
The Jungle Commando
The Jungle Commando was the guerrilla army that fought for Zebrian independence during the war and occupation by its pegasus neighbours. And after the empire's annexation by Ponecia, Emperor Ubaba's private military. Their loyalty is only to their emperor, and his plans for the Zebran people. They are excellent sharpshooters, and trained in jungle warfare and survival. But even outside their native jungle environment they are masters of camouflage and stealth. They are generally just as dangerous at close range should they have the element of surprise, and trained in demolition and infiltration. Though they are masters of nature, they do not shun the use of modern technology to help them in their missions. And because surviving combat and the many hazards of the terrain demand it, medicine and traditional zebra alchemy are also learned.
Palace
Emperor Ubaba has his residence in the former ambassador's residence in Equinopolis. A modern pyramid structure built out of glass and steel, with vast gardens. Ubaba has turned the ponds of the garden into a cragadile farm. Many of his closest staff share the palace with the emperor and it functions more like an administrative city than as the private residence of a monarch.
Fetishism
Zebras from the Zebrian empire believe in spirits, and that through objects of spiritual power these spirits can be made to hold power over individuals. Fetishes, talismans and mojo can harness spirits' magic to benefit the owner. Some practices of magic can hurt or curse someone through the spirits' wrath. They believe that dedicated shamans can also communicate with spirits through meditation, concoctions and rituals.
