Most ponies in the Dusts travel primarily on hoof. There are usually at least minimally adequate roads between the major settlements, though they often become muddy or snowed-in during infrequent episodes of precipitation. Roads are sometimes obscured by drifts of dust.
An industry making lighter-than-air airships is centered in Trenchtown. They are primarily used to hunt trench whales, but a state-owned passenger airship service is operated, possibly for propaganda purposes. This service is very popular but not generally sufficient to provide for transportation needs between nearby settlements. Trenchtown sends irregular cargo airships between itself and Irongate when the Dusty Mountain Pass is blocked. A single airship, built in Irongate, serves the Ducal Hayminnow Airway.
The Golden Age magical technology of making pegasus carts has, unfortunately, been lost. The few that remain have usually been extensively improved aesthetically such that one may now find what was once a humble trash cart gilded and carrying a wealthy leader. The loss of this technology has been ameliorated somewhat by the development, over the last few centuries, of pegasus-drawn gliders. Though unwieldy, they are much more widely available.
A railroad, using recovered equipment found well-preserved in an ancient rail museum unearthed about a century ago, has been developed in the Eastern Dusts. A branch servicing the Edge has occasionally been discussed, but nothing has yet come of it yet; while it would be potentially extremely useful and profitable, it would also be a work of engineering of massive proportions.
Travel across the Dusty Mountains separating the Eastern and Western Dusts is by a comparatively well-maintained but long and winding road; travelers on it must be prepared for a variety of recurring hazards and are very well advised to travel in well-equipped groups and employ a guide if they have not made the journey at least several times before. The Dusty Mountains Pass is occasionally snowed in during winter; if this happens, it may take weeks to be cleared.
