This article describes a meta-game concept.

The characters of the civilization in our Avatar game do not speak English, but rather mostly Common or other languages. Speech and writing in the game is notionally translated into English from these languages. Common is represented by mostly-Classical Chinese, written with traditional character forms, but whether or not it is "actually" highly similar to any particular historical form of any Chinese language is a matter of personal interpretation. It does certainly share some linguistic characteristics with Sino-Tibetan languages at any rate.

The notional translation is usually idiomatic and follows dynamic equivalence rather than a literal translation. You do not have to check your puns to make sure they work in Chinese.

This practice is in keeping with that of other campaigns, from the earliest days of HICU-RPG and subsequently.
