The huge drone freighters that coast between the Good Moons and Heidelberg are quite elegant, if one equates elegance with efficiency on an exchange-credit per newton-second basis. By any definition not rooted in economics, they are ugly. And if you look at them in terms of their up-front capital cost, they are also hideously expensive. One of them had been destroyed, blasted into a million pieces of orbital debris by an improvised missile. Because the freighter was traveling between the moon Rosmerta and the planet Heidelberg, polities which are closely allied but independently represented as sovereign states within the Free Confederation of Allied Worlds, the investigation falls into the jurisdiction of the Gendarmerie of the Allied Worlds (GAW). The local authorities will also be investigating, represented by the Arthurian League Space Police (ALSP). It is hoped that meaningful cooperation can be achieved, and the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Your characters will be members of either the GAW or ALSP. Your bosses want you to work together to investigate the destruction of the drone freighter and find the perpetrator(s). Pregen characters are available. On the theory that you would rather make up your own character personalities, these biographies mostly focus on skills and appropriate backgrounds. You can also use them as a basis for your own characters, if you like.

Igor Dune, ALSP Inspector 2nd Rank Rosmerta is Igor's homeworld, and he was born in the Hesselland worldhouse. His mother is a retired shipyard worker (mechanic). His father is a civil servant (canopy maintenance supervisor). He is 37 years old. The ALSP is Igor's second career; he was a shipyard security supervisor until being laid off with the closure of Rosmertine Fleet Yards in 2499. He is very practiced with small arms, and often spends extra time in the VR range. He was recently engaged to be married, but his prospective spouse's very wealthy family found him socially unacceptable.

Sandal Lucite, ALSP Inspector 2nd Rank Inspector Lucite is originally from Heidelberg, but her family moved to Rosmerta when she was six. Her father is an industrial chemist. Her mother is a computer programmer. She is 29 years old. She joined the ALSP straight out of college. She has specialized in information security and signals intelligence. She learned computer programming at an early age, and enjoys writing games in her spare time. Her most successful is a historical tactical game involving the Antimatter Wars.

Goodluck Shah, ALSP Inspector 1st Rank Inspector Shah is from Rosmerta. His mother and father were both construction workers. His father was a union leader, and then a ward captain, political representative, and local leader later in life. He is a descendant of one of the founding fathers of Rosmerta, Ramses Stallone. He is 42 years old. He is well-known in the local area, and his family is well-regarded. Inspector Shah is married to Charlotte Shah, a lawyer. They have two teenage children, Wednesday and Godspeed.

Amy Canadian, GAW Senior Detective Detective Canadian was born on New Iridia. She is 26 years old. Her mother was a civil servant in the Iridian Agricultural Bureau, her father was a water purification facility supervisor. She was mostly raised by her father, because her mother's work involved extensive travel to remote parts of the planet. Her career in the GAW has focused on counter-piracy investigations, working to coordinate operations with the Space Force.

Rhee Manly, GAW Senior Gendarme Officer Manly is a native of Rosmerta, his ancestors moving there from New Iridia a century ago. He is 27 years old. He is a second generation Gendarme; his mother served in the Inspectorate and was instrumental in solving a major corruption case involving the privatization of some Rosmertine extractive industries a decade ago; she is now retired. His father is a musician and sound engineer. He is pursuing the security career track within the GAW, and his previous work has included security for the Rosmerta GAW installation itself, including armed security drone operations. Rhee has two wives and a cohusband, Leah, Victory, and Merrick respectively, and two children, Leah Jr. and Cannon. Rhee and Victory are negotiating with the Worldhouse Reproductive Authority for a third birth permit.

Nice St. Googlebot, GAW Inspector Inspector St. Googlebot hails from the dark, icy warrens of Damara. Her mother was a merchant (ocean) ship crewmember, her father was a religious official in a Singularitarian Colony with whom she had a one-night-stand. Nice served an enlistment in the AWSF as a weapons technician before joining the GAW. She is 39 Years old and has one child, Squirrel St. Googlebot-Chase, by a former lover.
