The One whose Upper-Manipulation-Appendages Sundered the Predators, Leading to their Local Extinction, abbreviated to Upper-Manipulation-Appendages Extinction, is a semi-mythic hero of the Biran. First named as Upper-Manipulation-Appendages of Decidedly Anomalous Strength, at least according to legends, the young Biran grew into an unusually large and robust adult, who showed unusual initiative in extirpating dangerous organisms in its reef. It earned its definitive name by leading its neighbors in a systematic campaign which resulted in the extermination of all Biran predators they could find.
Upper-Manipulation-Appendages Extinction's heroic deeds were frequently invoked in the Imperial era, when the Imperious Association of Unified Compacts for the Management of Ecosystems decided to exterminate all non-sentient predators of Biran from all of their colony worlds. After decades of debate on the topic and a few trial programs, a consensus for action developed suddenly in the IAUCME. Without direct consultation with the human populations of those worlds, Biran began to deliberately cause the extinction of any non-sentient organism that regularly attempted to eat them. This caused some degree of friction when the populations of a number of species of charismatic megafauna abruptly collapsed. Captive populations were in most cases successfully maintained.
