A famous market of the Camel nomads of the Dusts. It contains a small year-round settlement and trading post, but on the full moon, the community swells with dozens of Camel tribes and the ponies and zebras who come to trade with them. The camels also perform all kinds of social business there, such as weddings and the acclamation of tribal leaders.
The economy is almost entirely based on trade. The continuous settlement has some gardens but they are mostly for the use of the permanent inhabitants of the trading post; agriculture is only possible with intense Earth Pony magic. Despite much of the bazaar infrastructure being pony-built, the bazaar definitely revolves around the camel culture, and sometimes trade too unsavory to be countenanced in pony civilization takes place there.
The bazaar is visited by the Aeropony, although except in the time around the full moon, it is not a popular destination.
By PRPG3, the rise of the oceans slowly flooded the Bactrian Bazaar, eventually leaving it many meters below the surface. Some of its residents dispersed back to the traditional nomadic camel lifestyle, while others remained nearby on The Lonely Island and built New Bactria.
