The Equine year has 12 months of 30 days each. Weeks are six days, and there are five per month, so unlike the Earth calendar, the first day of the month is always the same day of the week. Thanks to the efforts of Classical-era mages to make reality conform properly to the pony calendar, the tropical year is very nearly exactly the length of the calendar year and there is no need for leap days or intercalary months.
For the Zodiacal signs, for historical reasons not corresponding exactly to these months, see Constellations.
Months of the Year
- Winter: Gourds, Rye-planting, Crafting;
- Spring: Snow, Rains, Flowers;
- Summer: Grasses, Seeds, Heat;
- Autumn: Harvesting, Fruits, Corn.
The season names are not ideal translations into English, as will be noted by comparison of solistice dates. As the Isle of Yore is tropical, it has only a wet and a dry season. (Wet, in this case, being a very relative term.)
Days of the Week
The days of the week are named after the Elements of Harmony: Magic, Generosity, Honesty, Loyalty, Kindness, and Laughter. It should be noted that there are six days in the week, and hence always five weeks in the month, thus a given date in the year is always the same calendar day.
Holidays
Major holidays include:
- 30 Heat: Summer Sun Celebration (Summer solstice is northern hemisphere)
- 30 Crafting: Hearth’s Warming (Winter solstice in northern hemisphere)
- 1 Gourds: The New Year
