A political party in Greater Docktown. It favors a mostly free market and technocratic governance. It is currently the ruling party, holding the Mayor's office and 10 seat plurality (43%) on the Docktown Governing Council. It favors a lawful and orderly society, with minimal to modest government intervention in the market. It is, broadly, a center-right party. One independent member of the DGC, Silverstripe, caucuses with the DPP.
While the economy has generally operated adequately under the DPP, they are often criticized for allowing exploitative behavior by powerful business interests, and failing to impose sufficient health and safety regulations. This latter criticism has also come from inside the party. The left criticizes the extreme income inequality that has developed under the DPP - most common ponies have seen relatively little of the great economic growth under the DPP. Controversially, the DPP pushed through the creation of a Special Rail District of Docktown for transport and industrial development with major tax incentives, and then turned a blind eye when railroad magnates moved their private residences onto land purchased from their own companies to avoid taxes. (A bill to close this loophole failed 10-13 in 3335.)
The DPP have often been sharply critical of dissenting voices in politics, but Docktown has an ancient and well-established right to free speech for its citizens, and remains a functioning democracy (some would say in spite of the DPP's efforts.)
