An extremely prosperous oceanic port during the Golden Age, Docktown suffered mightily during the Catastrophe and has never truly recovered. Vast ruins of the city and its suburbs are now buried under the Eastern Dusts. It is nonetheless still a large settlement for its place and time, with several areas having been continuously inhabited. It has undergone considerable recent population growth in the last few decades, and parts of the old city are being unearthed and restored. Docktown has one of the few institutions of higher learning not primarily focused on magic or professional topics, the Eastern Ponyland University. EPU resumed operation within half a century of the catastrophe, and is the largest precatastrophic university in operation on Equus today.
Docktown has a postal service and a railroad serving the Eastern Dusts. The railroad uses refurbished pre-catastrophic equipment.
Unfortunately, Docktown has a persistent problem with crime (although it has decreased slightly in the past few years) and perceptions of police corruption. Another issue is that recent chaotic redevelopment and immigration have resulted in much of the less well-off segment of its population living in shantytowns or poorly-renovated ruins.
Docktown has a democratically elected mayor and city council. The incumbent mayor is Hub Cap. Docktown is part of the Confederation of Cities.
The economy is based on trade (30%), industry (20%), services (15%), transportation (10%), and other diversified activities. Docktown is famous of the Docktown Antiquities Market, which features some of the best prices on Golden Age items - most of which are junk.
