One of the last motile vegetables of Equus and the only one of economic significance to survive past the Classical period. It went extinct in the Catastrophe.

Hayminnows were marine plants. Their body was a large streamlined cigar-shaped rhizome with flesh similar to that of a carrot. Paired leaves roughly analogous to the paired fins of fishes were similarly used for swimming, trailing hairlike roots extracted minerals and nutrients from the water, and a crude photosensitive eyespot caused them to seek sunlight. They were reportedly delicious, and could be eaten boiled, baked, fried, or simply raw. An extensive cannery industry existed around them, and they were usually canned packed in oil or any of various sauces, similar to how sardines are canned by humans.
