The Loremaster of the Arcane Helix was the paramount executive leader of the Arcane Helix, an institution of magical learning. The Loremaster was also the ex officio mayor of the town of Helix surrounding the Arcane Helix, and president of the court of the Autocephalous Magesterium of the Arcane Helix, though these powers and duties were traditionally devolved on independently elected officers. The Loremaster was considered a noble archmage equivalent in rank to a count, as with an ensconced archmage, but the Loremaster's particular jurisdiction was limited to the Helix and its dependent town itself, an enclave within a larger sconce. (Exactly which varied as the system of magical sconces evolved over the centuries with changing population and politics.)
