Background

Parlour Ivy's parents migrated to Trenchtown soon after the Ponyist Revolution that brought to power the Progressive Ponyist Party. Claiming descent from Revolution Rosie, who founded Ponyism a millennium ago, her family have been reputable members of their city state. But nearly all of them suffered fatal accidents or crippling injury and disease in the span of only a few years. Ivy, initially studying body treatment to open up a health spa, was forced to turn to prostitution to afford her education. She nonetheless dropped out, realizing she would not have the resources or connections to realize her future plans without her family. She was also pregnant with a daughter whom she had to support. She doted her affections on her foal, Ivy League, and used all that she earned to ensure she would succeed in life where her mother had failed. Ivy League's promising career as horticultural researcher for Trenchtown's agricultural program was only marred by her breaking the trust of her peers to make their discoveries available early to farmers, and they decided to send her on a field assignment to let the affair blow over. But when word reached Parlour Ivy that her daughter was in trouble in New Canterlot, she quickly left Trenchtown behind her to come to her child's rescue.

Parlour Ivy has been succesfull in building her own network of contacts using charm and blackmail. Her profession, although demanding discretion, puts her in a position to call in favours. Her beauty, despite the onset of ageing, allows her to exploit mares and stallions together with experience of pony psychology. Smoozing her way through life however has made her lazy in intellectual matters and her rapid climb through the educational system was owed to her family's reputation, as she was already somewhat dim and vapid in her youth. She has compensated with street smarts and skills of subterfuge. She is also crafty, with a mind for creativity rather than logic.
