Her Highness Princess Nova of Harmonia, Guardian of All Lawful Magic, is an alicorn princess, the alter-ego of Elite Librarian, though few alive now know her by any other name.

Early Life

See Elite Librarian.

Role

Nova is a high-ranking noble (a princess) of Harmonia, but is not the head of state, and though she holds a variety of minor roles and honorary positions, she has no position of substantial temporal power in the Civitas Harmoniae sensu stricto. She does, however, hold the position of Curator, the leader of the curacies, the co-sovereign jurisdictions of lawful magic under the Harmonic system. Thus, while she is often thought of as being in a position similar to Harmonia's other great officers of state, and customarily offers reports on magical affairs to the government, she is technically not a member of the Harmonic government.

In the past, Nova as curatrix had various reserve powers, but as the legal system of Harmonia developed and proved stable (and in particular by the time of PRPG3), she devolved or relinquished many of these powers to the President of Harmonia or other elected officials, or allowed them to become extinct through disuse. The political power of her appointees, the Procurators, who sit in the unicameral legislature of Harmonia (the Harmonic Senate), has also been diminished by convention - the procurators now customarily abstain from voting on legislation (though they continue to serve on committees and participate in debates.)

Issue

Steel Spark, Titanium Pin (by first husband, Flint Spark)
Emerald Runes (by second husband, Adamantine Runes)
Golden Biscuit (by Golden Souffles)

Princess Nova married her childhood friend Flint Spark in her early twenties, and they had two children together, their firstborn a colt named Steel Spark, and Titanium Pin, their second foal. Nova had specifically rejected the advice of the Alicorn Breeding Program for her pairing, possibly having no great desire to produce more alicorns. However, her descendents, now rather numerous thanks to the impressive fecundity of Steel Spark and his children, have included a large proportion of bitypical ponies.

Flint Spark died in 3429 AE. She remarried in 3462 to the incumbent Archmage of Seven Spires, Adamantine Runes (3380-3495), an Equestrian potentate who allied himself with Harmonia. This was not a political marriage, however; the alliance was already a settled matter for years beforehand. They had one child, Emerald Runes, named after a cousin. Adamantine died in 3506 after failing magical life extension.

Nova had a clandestine romantic relationship with her executive chef, Golden Souffles, in the 3520s. In 3538 AE, After Nova dismissed a corrupt archmage from the Sconce of the Nameless Desert, the disgruntled mage revealed that Souffles' adopted teenage daughter Golden Biscuit, supposedly a foundling, was actually his daughter by Nova, the pregnancy having been concealed by illusion magic and an appropriately-timed vacation. Nova acknowledged Biscuit, then a student in the New Ponylon Magical Academy magnet school, after the story broke. Souffles had left the Curial household some years ago and married another mare; the affair had apparently ended more or less amicably long before its exposure. Other affairs have been rumoured, but none have been proven or acknowledged. As of the 37th century, the princess remains single and does not discuss her romantic life.

Her second cousin is the Archmage of the Crooked Tower, Emerald Hues, via their shared great-grandmother Moonstone Hues, though Emerald later switched bodies with Nova's time-clone Elly so they are now genetic identical twins rather than second cousins. (It is debatable if this makes more sense in context or not.)
