Rose Red is the out-of-wedlock daughter of an earth pony maid and a Nickerby unicorn noble that claims descent from Bluestar the Brilliant. Unwilling to acknowledge her as his true daughter, Rose is quite resentful of her absent father and exhibited anti-aristocratic sentiments at an early age. Although she attended the parochial Harmonia Friendship School, she remained mostly interested in subjects of history and economics that advocated radical change in government and society. She became interested in Ponyism after learning her absent father was allegedly related to the anti-monarchist revolutionary Revolution Rosie, as were other noble houses of New Equestria. Although denouncing her unicorn heritage, the Temple of the Old Religion offered their patronage for studying at a magic college. Pressured into accepting, Rose chose to attend the Radiance Magic College in Sparkle City just to get away from New Equestria for a few years. Although she passed various subjects without much effort, she still found it hard to accept magic was her future career, believing her idol Rosie to be an earth pony and wanting to emulate their non-magical lives. So she was appalled to learn an intern job at the Bureau of Magical Affairs had been secured for her on her return to New Equestria. Bemoaning the fact her whole future was always being arranged by The Powers That Be, she still accepted and slowly became resigned to the status quo. Until New Canterlot was attacked by changelings masquerading as dragons. The pony who had paved much of the way for her effortless career was revealed to be a changeling sympathizer, and the city suffered many casualties. Rose was not pleased with news that Princess Nightfal was the only survivor of the royal family and would thus become the new queen. She became vocal of her criticism of New Equestria's government once more. But without a pony in a high position to shield her from the consequences, with her thoughts on the state of the nation considered seditious, and the attack coming only shortly after her publishing her own findings into changeling society that downplayed their threat, she made herself unpopular with the new minister of magic, Wysteria. She was promoted to junior inquisitor and put first on the roster of ponies to be sent out to aid the party in search of the Elements of Harmony. Shortly after her first summon, she received a letter from the BMA signed by Wysteria that she was under investigation for her conduct within the organization, with the implicit threat not to return until progress had been made in the retrieval of other elements.

Skills

Rose Red is most skilled in summoning magic, which she excelled in while in college. Although not nearly as proficient in other fields, she is still strong with magic overall. Her own interests lie more with politics, economics and history and she has become quite knowledgeable in those subjects. She also has a bit of a silver tongue as she loves to argue on her favourite subjects, enough so that her employers thought it best not to keep her around to cause unrest in an already troubled time.
