Slimes are ordinarily amorphous, amoeboid creatures of around one cubic meter in volume. The adult Slime is sentient, but the young of the species (amorphous slimes) are not fully sentient. Slimes are native to the Dread Dimensions, but can be found elsewhere. Slimes take on the intelligence and semblance of creatures they have devoured. Slimes are immortal (but not invulnerable) and reproduce by blebbing. Slimes may combine e.g. pony features with those of other creatures. Slimes are translucent, although larger, older slimes are less translucent. They have a mucoid sheen, and amorphous ones leave a tenuous slime trail wherever they go, undifferentiated slimes (young individuals who have never devoured a sentient creature) traveling by ameoboid movement. Slime versions of creatures that ordinarily have magic do not retain their casting abilities. Slime versions of magical flying creatures (such as pegasi or dragons) cannot fly, but Slime versions of creatures that can fly aerodynamically (such as birds) usually retain their ability to fly. In their natural state, slimes are colorless to pale blue, but they take on the colors of the creatures they devour. Slimes resist acid damage and contain a very large proportion of water, making them non-flammable, although they are readily congealed by heat from an external source.
A Slime coming into solid physical contact with an enemy may deal oxidative and acidic damage to the enemy, enveloping, invading and then digesting the creature in a matter of minutes if not removed. After having done so, the Slime is vulnerable and quiescent for about five minutes. If it was previously amorphous, the Slime then takes on a semblance of the form of its victim and has access to his or her memories. Since undifferentiated Slimes have no real personalities of their own, and act mostly on instinct, the personality of the newly mature creature usually strongly resembles that of the victim. More mature Slimes take on less of the personality of their victim, but still get access to their knowledge, skills and memories. Slimes are not safe to eat. Slimes are not reproductively competent with members of the species they devour, and do not reproduce sexually with each other, although two or more slimes may exchange genetic material together in a process analogous to bacterial sex, which tends to stimulate blebbing.
