Background
Star Struck was born the second child of Lady Shy Star of house Star and her heir apparent, over her older brother Falling Star. Her memories of her father are vague, and only involve her parents fighting. They divorced a few years after her birth. Her celibate mother raised her alone, grooming her as her heir. In her fillyhood years, she was captivated by the myth and religion surrounding Princess Luna, becoming one of her temple's choir fillies out of devotion.
She was enrolled in the Crosswands Academy for Magically Gifted Fillies, even though boarding school took her away from Nickerby and her mother, who visited every week. When not studying magic or acting as house prefect, she would spend time as a sailor scout. She only got one serious reprimand in her time at boarding school, but the scandal cost her her prefect status and started salacious rumours that hurt her reputation.
During her boarding school years, while staying at her mother's home and practicing magic, Star Struck looked directly into a flash of light from her mother and was permanently blinded. Through her training in summoning magic she learned to see through the link with her summons to overcome this handicap. Despite this, she gave up on her studies to become a wizard after still completing her college studies into magic. She worked as a nurse during this time, studying at the Medical Academy of Nickerby Parish. She was forced to accept that even with the plethora of tasks in which magical sight was suitable, her blindness would remain a recurring obstacle.
She instead refocused her efforts on studies of theology back in Nickerby at the Princess Celestia Seminary. She completed her masters degree, and joined the temple as an ordained Priestess of Luna. She currently studies for her doctorate, but wants to write something of true historical value. To uncover something while exploring other continents, she has aplied to join the expedition as a medic and historian.
Skills
Star Struck has learned to summon magic constructs through necessity. This has also taught her the fundamentals of psychurgy. She also studied healing magic before her own blinding as a nurse at the Medical Academy. In her studies of religion she has widely researched the history and origins of Equestria and the post-Catastrophic diaspora.
Character
Star Struck is a devout follower of the Royal Pantheon, but her blindness has made her meek and shy. As healing and forgiveness are two qualities ascribed to Luna, she is protective and caring of fellow ponies. She keeps a hair pin with her at all times, given to her as a foal by her grandmother to offer her Luna's protection over children and dreams. She also owns an enchanted book to record all knowledge for her, a family tradition. This book, like all others, has an unfortunate quirk in that it is lewd and suggestive, in contrast to her mother, who made it for Star Struck.
Family
Star Struck's mother is a member of the Nickerby nobility, and has a good bond with her daughter. She is dutifull, which sometimes clashes with what's best for her or her family. She was to inherit the family lands and titles, and married for that reason. Long enough to have a filly to succeed her before letting the marriage run aground and divorcing. As such, Star Struck barely remembers her father, who was not there for his children.
Star Struck's older brother resents the fact that he is being skipped over, inheritance going to the oldest mare in their family. Her mother smothering Star Struck with love, providing her the best education, and painstakingly tutoring her often made him resentful, and he would act out. Although she felt bad for him, her brother's ire extanded to her as well, and they became more estranged once he left the family, and spited his mother with a fast and loose lifestyle.
