In PRPG2
A chain of five upland plateaus what were once volcanic islands in the Ocean of Dreams, located east of Docktown in the Eastern Dusts. In those days, their primary industry was the harvesting of hayminnows from the surrounding oceans. They are inhabited mainly by zebras (77%), with a pony minority (16%). The islands are self-sufficient in basic necessities but engage in regular trade with pony settlements in the Eastern Dusts. The capital of the Hayminnow Islands, itself named Hayminnow, is a sizeable city, the second most populous jurisdiction in the Dusts after Docktown. In PRPG2, the Hayminnow Islands are a constitutional monarchy under Duchess Aflori, whose dynasty dates to the 27th century AE at the latest but claims to have come to power in the Royal Age after overthrowing a foreign regime.
Some of the Hayminnow Islands are now linked by very long, narrow suspension bridges. Travel between islands not so linked, and between them and the former mainland, is now by switchback paths descending the islands, by glider, or by an airship purchased from Irongate.
Location (of Hayminnow, the capital city, on the largest island of the same name): 149°27’0”E, 0°50’0”N, 42.5m
Names of the islands, north to south:
Shield Island (northernmost, inhabited)
Pigroot Island (inhabited, rural.)
Hayminnow (largest, center of most agriculture, has a crater lake)
Quagga Island (inhabited, rural)
Stonepipes Island / Saranta (volcanically active, sparsely inhabited until the recent boom in the sulfur market)
In PRPG3
The Hayminnow Islands are currently a mostly-autonomous protectorate of Harmonia. Several votes have been attempted on the issue of being folded into an existing curacy or perhaps creating a new one, but the vote failed each time due to a popular sentiment for independence among the majority zebra population. The Harmonic Age has been generally peaceful for Hayminnow. The ruling dynasty during PRPG2 has remained entrenched as the royal family, and a Duchess is still the nominal head of state, though the actual powers of the office have gradually devolved over the three intervening centuries to the point of being entirely ceremonial.
Seismic activity on Stonepipes Island has been a point of concern in recent decades, predicted to indicate an imminent major eruption of its volcano at some relatively near point in the future. Some of the sulfur miners have moved off the island as a result, but some have remained.
